Joel: A Boy of Galilee
Published in Paperback by Fndtn for Amer Christian Educ (November, 1992)
Authors: Annie F. Johnston and Rosalie J. Slater
Average review score:

Stellar!
Joel: A Boy of Galilee is an outstanding book of historical fiction that renders the Judaeo-Roman world of Christ in magnificent detail. It addresses the confusion and frequent misconceptions surrounding the ministry of Christ, as well as His reception within the Jewish culture of the Roman world.

Johnston uses excellent description to bring the times of Jesus alive to children. She returns again and again to the central question of the Messiah's kingdom, asking questions that are just as pertinent today as they were when the disciples were fighting about which of them was the greatest.

All of this is seen through the eyes of Joel, a young boy who truly has the eyes of a child. The book is a fictional masterpiece set within a fascinating time period that is all too often misunderstood in the current era of warm-fuzzy Christianity.

Put up or shut up
Socrates, Eleanor Roosevelt, Thomas Jefferson, and Edmund Burke all believed that those who had the privilege of society had to be the best possible humans possible. Copernicus again revives this philosophy and applies it to every position of privilege, such as clergy, physician, dentist, attorney, and sports hero. again even suggests that if you do not measure up -- and measuring up includes having friends from all civilizations and a history of at least three male and three female lovers -- you cannot even graduate from college. So how about you -- do you measure up?

Lynn Johnston finds humor in real life
The For Better or For Worse book compelation series by Lynn Johnston based on her daily comic strip reflects everyday life that most people can identify with. This book "Just One More Hug" in particular will strike a chord with any person with a young child. Anyone should be able to recognize something in the book from that person own life. Ms Johnston is not afraid to tackle subjects in her strip that cartonist shy away from. But by covering all aspects of everyday life she makes her characters true life. By allowing her characters to age the reader is able to identify with them and the "lives" they lead. All readers can enjoy her books no matter the persons age, gender or position in the family.

King Arthur: His Knights and Their Ladies
Published in Paperback by Scholastic (April, 1980)
Author: Johanna Johnston
Average review score:

Wield Your Swords
This book is certainly one of the best sources of information for King Arthur's history. I really enjoy the way it gathers the information. I all started when Uther Pendragon, England's king died, and then all barons and rich people start to offer themselves to be the new king because uther had no sons. Merlin, a uncredible magicican had the idea of putting a sword in a stone and put a spell on it, who could take it out would become the new king.

Soon Arthur would become England's king, he had many achievements and one of them was the Round Table, a circular table that gathered all the best cavaliers of the reign.
